To ring in our first Independence Day on the east coast, we traveled to beautiful Charleston, South Carolina. Our friends Mark, Amy and baby Will (see this cutie below) were able to make the drive from Augusta, Georgia as well making this an extra special trip.
Here are the details:
Where We Stayed: fantastic location!
1 Maiden Lane
Charleston, SC 29401
Where Mark and Amy Stayed: also a great location
387 King Street
Charleston, SC 29403
Where We Grubbed:
At Our Hotel (complimentary breakfast, and wine and cheese in the afternoons)
The Noisy Oyster: trio platter of oysters, shrimp and tuna for Chad, tower of fried green tomatoes and crab cakes for Amy (plus one Rum Runner – their signature drink)
Taco Boy: hard to compare when you are used to Tex-Mex. Baja style tacos.
Charleston Candy Company – can we say fresh, warm pralines! Two please!
Hominy Grill: according to the photos in the uni-sex restroom, both Anthony Hopkins and Lou Reed have dined here. We had the shrimp and grits and a chicken biscuit called “the big nasty.” We’re sure Hannibal Lector had the same.
How We Kept Busy:
Graveyard Tour by Bulldog Tours (tour guide: Anna)
Beach Day at Folly Beach, South Carolina
Fireworks and Penguin Exhibit at the Aquarium
Cigars at Club Habana
Church and House-Gazing (of course!)
and shopping (picked up a scarf at J.Crew and this little beauty from the Historical Society)
