True Home Making

This weekend I decided to take a break from Case de Whited and unleash some of my DIY energy on the future Casa de Rives by volunteering with Durham’s Habitat for Humanity

I don’t have to tell you guys what Habitat is or about all the lives they change every day, all I can say is how fulfilling the worksite experience really is.  So if you’ve thought about volunteering, go for it!

No experience is necessary, the staff and super-volunteers will find a project you are comfortable with and give you instructions every step of the way. It’s even a great opportunity to learn how to make improvements to your own home.

I was appropriately assigned to painting duty today, considering the other options were installing baseboards, vinyl siding and kitchen cabinets.

The team worked alongside with the future homeowner who was ecstatic about helping to build the new home she’s purchased and will receive the keys to on December 13th.

Again, if you’ve ever thought about it, do it – that’s all I’m gonna say.

I know in NY there was a huge backlog of people wanting to do HforH.. how is it in Durham? Easy to sign up for 1 day/afternoon shifts? I think it’d be a great way to get some pent up energy out of the way constructively.

We don’t think there is a waiting list at all. You should totally give them a call whenever you have a free weekend. They scheduled this build with 4 hour shifts so you don’t have to stay all day either.
